Rick Felstead wins Volunteer of the Year Award – Manitoba!
Rick Felstead wins Volunteer of the Year Award – Manitoba from Travel Manitoba and Tourism Winnipeg. Rick, a retired gas utilities engineering manager and consultant, has been volunteering at the Garden for 18 years. He was elected to the Garden’s Board of Directors in 2009 and has served on various committees, including Governance, Planning and Development, and Communications and Membership. Through his position as the Governor of Rotary International, he was instrumental in raising funds required to create the Garden’s 9/11 Memorial and continues to initiate improvement and ongoing maintenance to the site.
“Rick is always willing to help out at Garden events,” Tim Chapman, CEO at the International Peace Garden, said. “He does everything from greeting and guiding guests to directing traffic, helping the gate staff, and ensuring that our visitors have a great time. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious and he’s an outstanding ambassador and advocate for the Garden.”
Over the years, Rick has held leadership positions in several professional, social and civic organizations. He remains an active member of Rotary International, serves in the Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Association of Canada, the Manitoba Branch of the Army Cadet League of Canada board, and is an executive member of the Central Museum of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery in Shilo, Manitoba. He is the recipient of several awards for community and national service including the Queen’s Silver, Gold and Diamond Jubilee medals.

Garden Information - April 2024
Our 2024 theme is Reading! The International Peace Garden continues to be focused on engaging youth in our programming. Classic Characters from toddler books to pre-teen will be featured in the floral designs and one of our accompanying features will include Story Boxes, strategically placed throughout the garden to encourage families to take some time to read one of the beautiful books contained within. We are looking for donations of the books listed on our Amazon book list. If you would like to donate a book or two, please click on the link below, select and purchase a title(s) from the list, and the book(s) will be mailed directly to the International Peace Garden. We appreciate your consideration and support of the IPG 2024 Reading theme.
If you have any questions, please contact Debra, Education and Volunteer Coordinator, at coordinator@peacegarden.com.
The Conservatory is home to one of the world’s most diverse indoor collections of cacti and succulents and makes for a great, warm escape from the cold during the long months ahead! Stayed tuned for opening dates.
Although the Garden is open all year, certain services are not available again until spring/summer. The Conservatory lobby and restrooms are closed due to maintenance, but the terrace building at No. 5 on the brochure map has restrooms that will be available throughout the winter, including during your dawn or dusk adventures! The Gift Shop and Cafe are closed for the season, but stay tuned as occasional winter hours are announced.
The Garden is open year-round! Although fewer attractions are available in winter, as a non-profit organization the Garden appreciates support as all visits benefit our mission. You can purchase a day pass or annual membership. Passes, memberships and gift certificates make for great holiday presents and can be made in the recipient’s name. Please contact Jennifer at visitorsservices@peacegarden.com.
