Lots to see and do in the Turtle Mountains
The Turtle Mountain region is very picturesque, throughout its four very distinctive seasons, with its vibrant colored falls to the white blanketed winters; nature and wildlife are at their best.
BOATING AND FISHING:  There are many lakes sprinkled throughout the Turtle Mountains too numerous to name.  Check with area parks for locations.

BELCOURT:
        Sky Dancer Casino offers 300 slot machines, blackjack, bingo, and other games of chance. The Casino is located seven miles east of Dunseith. The attached hotel offers modern and comfortable accommodations.
HISTORY: The Turtle Mountain Chippewa Heritage Center, located in Belcourt offers a unique and historical collection of American Indian culture and artifacts as well as gifts.  Just two miles north of Belcourt lies an Anishinaubag Intercultural Center featuring an earth lodge village, teepee village, and round house cultural center.  Butte St. Paul is 10 miles east and 1 ½ miles north of Bottineau.  Four Chaplains Monument is Bottineau.

 BOTTINEAU:
TURTLES: Bottineau’s city park is “Tommy Turtle,” a gigantic turtle riding a snowmobile
MUSEUMS: The Bottineau County Historical Museum with a collection of farm machinery, an old school house and museum full of days gone by exhibit is located in Bottineau, and open weekends or by appointment.
MYSTICAL HORIZONS: Scenic By-Way, ND Highway 43 west: a scaled down version of England’s Stonehenge, is a 21st Century Stonehenge. A group of six walls represent the solar calendar. A large Roman numeral faced sundial and a steel pipe perfectly positioned to view the North Star are not only educational, but the area provides a panoramic view of the North Dakota prairie.
CAMPING:  Lake Metigoshe State Park, about eighteen miles west of The International Peace Garden, sits on the shore of beautiful Lake Metigoshe. The park offers camping, hiking trails, boat ramp, fishing, swimming, canoe rentals, and a playground. Lake Metigoshe offers fine dinning, fishing, boating, golf, and a variety of water activities and top-notch lodging facilities.

BIRDWATCHING:  pick your spot.  J Clark Sayler Wildlife Refuge, 12 miles west and 17 miles south of Bottineau, is a birdwatchers paradise, but none of the Turtle Mountains with its many lakes, trees, and rolling hills lack for birds.
GOLFING:  A nine hole Golf Course in Bottineau & another course at Lake Metigoshe
 

DUNSEITH:
TURTLES: the “wee'l turtle,” made completely out of old car rims.
GOLFING: A nine hole Golf Course located north of Dunseith
CAMPING:  Shepherd’s Hill at the Cross Roads, located twelve miles southeast of the International Peace Garden offer family orientated programs along with camping facilities. 
 

ROLLA:
MUSEUMS: The Dale and Martha Hawk Museum, located twenty one miles south of Rolla, boasts of North Dakota’s largest collection of farm machinery. Several buildings, including a general store, school, and church, complete the exhibit.

RUGBY:

MUSEUMS: Prairie Village Museum- Take a Walk through History & the Victorian Dress Museum

ST. JOHN:
MUSEUMS: The Rolette County Historical Society Museum is located in St. John, ND, and is open on Sunday afternoons.
 
TURTLES

Just sixteen miles north of the Peace Garden at Boissevain, Manitoba, a 28 foot tall turtle waits to greet you. Thirty two miles southwest in Bottineau’s city park is “Tommy Turtle,” a gigantic turtle riding a snowmobile, and fourteen miles south to Dunseith is the “wheel turtle,” made completely out of old car rims.

MUSEUMS: Boissevain is also the home of Beckoning Hills Museum, a depository of pioneer history and the Moncur Gallery, a collection of early art and artifacts dating as far back as 11,000 years.
CAMPING:  Turtle Mountain Provincial Park is located just three miles north of The International Peace Garden.  Amenities include, camping, picnicking, and swimming in Adam Lake.
MURALS: Twenty five murals grace the walls of various buildings in the community. Beautifully painted, the murals depict much of early history of the City of Boissevain. Self guided tour books can be picked up at the Tourist Information Center.
GOLFING:  A 9 hole golf course located south of   Boissevain

While visiting Bottineau, stop and see the statute of Pierre Bottineau and the Four Chaplin’s Monument, along with several murals. 

 “Ole’s Autos” and the September 11th Firemen’s Memorial Mural can be found in Bottineau and the “Maid of the Moonshine” is located near the Narrows Bridge at Lake Metigoshe. The maid’s image has been at this location in various forms since 1918.
